We are jumping into Place Value of bigger numbers this week.
Please be able to spell hundred, ten and one.
Standard form – 125
Expanded form – 100 + 20 + 5
Written form - one hundred twenty five
Digit = a number: 1 is the digit in the hundreds place, 2 is the digit in the tens place, 5 is the digit in the ones place
Value = how much a digit is worth 1 in the hundreds place = 100, 2 in the tens place = 20 and 5 in the ones place = 5
- Math - Place value up to 999, counting bills and coins up to $2 and word problems with adding 2 digit numbers or 2 step addition and subtraction parts
- Social Studies - We've started to learn all about economics. Last week we focused on needs versus wants and how to barter to get what you need or want. Next we will focus on goods and services and what happens with scarcity.
- Daily 5 - We are building reading stamina by reading just right books. Each 2nd grader should be able to read for 15 minutes at this point in 2nd grade. They should be able to say the main characters, setting and retell beginning, middle and end. We are continuing to work on expanding our writing. Our focus in the next couple of weeks will continue to be informational writing with facts and how to writings. Student should be writing 5 good 2nd grade sentence with consistent capitals and punctuation. Our focus in reading continues to be main idea and author's purpose. Why did the author write the book, what conclusions can we draw and what is the main idea of a book, passage or text.
